ME AS A GEORGIAN COLONIALST

February 24, 1740
Dear family,
I have decided to move to Georgia because I love to harvest vegetables and I want to live in the countryside. Also, I had a debt back in England and I didn't know what to do, but then I found out if I went to Georgia I could be free.

The two other colonies I don’t like so much because New England
Colonies do whaling and other gross jobs. The middle colonies are nice but they have too many trees!

I like long fields and living by the ocean too. It looks pretty here.

I wish you could see this because there are flowers blooming and my house looks neat!
Hope you can visit soon!
Love,
Maizy Lee Goerlitz
p.s. I just got a cat.

  1. Georgia sounds nice. I've never been there, but I'd love to go visit one day.

  2. Georgia would be my pick too! I love warm places where I can leave the doors and windows open to the breezes all year long.

    Great letter, Maizy.

By the way, what is the name of your cat?

  3. I was meaning to ask about your house...do you have verandahs with large overhangs so you can sit out day or night and enjoy the world around you? How many children do you have? Are you teaching them there yourself/ Sounds like a grand life.

  5. It sounds like you are "Gone with the Wind." Pretty exciting stuff!

I bet it won't be long before you also get some chickens too.
